Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Cute, Classic, Traditional, Casual, Holiday

Materials

Crochet cotton, size 10, in 350 yd. (320 m) balls - 10 for throw, 23 for coverlet; and a size 7 (1.65 mm) steel crochet hook.

What was your inspiration?

Filet crochet is one of my favorite crochet projects. I was having fun working with positive and negative designs for creating the stars.

What are you most proud of?

I'm happy with the way the stripes of large stars and stripes of small stars matched up to create this fun design. The stripes are also crocheted together so there is no need for sewing.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This is an easy pattern, but follow the instructions closely when joining the stripes to make sure the stars line up correctly.

Two sizes are included:
- Throw: 43" wide x 53-1/2" long
- Twin Coverlet: 62-1/2" wide x 86" long

This pattern is available for $4.00 and is written in U.S. terms.

I love this! Anything with stars is my favorite thing, I have lots of stars in my house. Do you know how it would work out in Yarn?

Thank you so much! No, I haven't tried this in yarn yet, but think it would probably work best in a lighter weight yarn.

I'm not a nautical person, however these stars and stripes are beautiful.

Super cute! I'm not one to usually decorate in a "stars and stripes" theme, but I could use this year round! Nice work :)

Really NICE! I plan to use size 3 thread, or perhaps even yarn and upsize this for a king size bed!

This is so pretty! I used to do a lot of filet crochet...hmmm, I might have to give it a try! Thanks, it's really nicely done.

Could additional rows be added on the sides and on the foot to fit a full (double) size bed? Any clue of how much more yarn that would take? I have a grand-daughter going off to college, and this would be great for her to take. Thank you and God bless.

This can easily be adjusted to your own size. It is done in bedspread cotton crochet thread. Each 350 yd. ball of thread will make either 18 small star squares or 7 large star squares. The large stars measure 6" high x 6" wide and there is a 1/2" between each square, with an additional 1" border on the top and bottom. The small stars are 3-3/4" wide. There is only a narrow border on each side. The stripes are crocheted together with single crochet, so you don't need to calculate extra for connecting the stripes.

I forgot to add - plan an extra ball of thread for the border around the coverlet in addition to the amounts for the stars.
