Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this piece. "Standing Guard" is a painting done by me. It is done with Golden, Utrecht, and Liquitex acrylics on an 8X10 masonite panel. I used gel medium for the first time for the foreground snow. I also used a fan brush for the first time to create the foliage on the tree. I got the picture of the dog from a book. My wife said it looks just like her border collie "Butch" she had as a child on the farm growing up. I found a suitable frame in my collection of frames and it seems to do it justice. I have enjoyed Susan Stillman's class and looking forward to an opportunity to take another. I am an 68 year-old amateur who has been painting for almost two years. I am donating it to a silent auction in Baltimore to raise funds for cancer research.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Take a Craftsy art class, preferably from Ms. Stillman!
