FIRST: Frosted both one 6" round cake and one 6" ball cake (TIP: The ball cake pan can be purchased online. It comes in two pieces. Only one ½ is needed. You can also shape an additional 6” round cake into a dome by using a sharp paring knife).
NEXT STEP: Place the ball cake on top of the 6" round cake. Frost the entire cake and allow time for the icing to harden/or crust. Next, roll out a piece of fondant to cover the entire cake (TIP: The cake can also be placed in the freezer to harden. The freezing method helps to keep the cake moist and will allow more time to cover the cake with fondant).
Once, the cake has been covered in fondant smooth the cake using your hands or a fondant smoother (TIP: you can also use a small piece of left over fondant to smooth out the cake).
NEXT: Insert a medium lollipop stick into the center of the cake. Insert the lollipop stick about 1/4” into the cake. Allow 3/4" of the lollipop stick to stick-out, to attached the doll’s body and head.
NEXT: Begin to add the dress embellishments to the bottom of the cake using fondant/or gum-paste.
NEXT: Shape and mold the doll’s face and arms using modeling chocolate (I preferred modeling chocolate because it will allow extra time to shape the features of the doll’s face, hands and hair, fondant /or gum-paste will dry and crack if not handled in a certain time-frame). Allow the body parts to harden, about 1 hour.
Roll a small piece of modeling chocolate into a cylinder to form the body. Insert the fondant cylinder into the lollipop leaving enough space to attach the doll’s head.
Attach both arms to the side of the body using gum-glue. Insert the head into the stick and be careful not to damage the shape of the doll’s head. The doll's hair should be added last!
Lightly brush the head with gum-glue and attached hair to the doll’s head (hair can be created using a clay extractor, or by rolling small pieces of modeling chocolate into strips).
