What was your inspiration?
When Spring hits my thoughts turn to warm days at Walt Disney World and I start planning the next visit. This next visit we are going with a family that has never been before and I wanted to make the kids something to carry their autograph books and park maps, snack, etc in. That makes it much easier than a parent who winds up carrying everything for them. The bags are lightweight, feature their favorite characters, the strap is adjustable so it fits them individually, their books and pen are always at their sides, and the zipper top keeps everything safe inside while on the rides. The strap can also serve as a pin-tradng lanyard. I wanted to incorporate all the the fun parts of the adventure in this one item: getting autographs, trading pins, learning how to read a map, etc. The little book is to make notes in, or draw in, etc. The little pillow is good for soothing nerves on the plane, a long car ride, leaning their head on in a stroller, just for fun and for getting autographs on! The bag iteself could be used for getting autographs. I would recommend a sharpie for the autographs on fabric. You don't want them to disappear in the wash.
What are you most proud of?
Making it easy for kids to enjoy the parks and carry their own essentials. It gives them a little taste of independence and relieves a parent of carrying these things for each child themselves. I am also happy to use these materials that I already had on hand! I like the little doll/ pillow made from the same fabric too!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Think of the child and what interests them in choosing the material for the bag. Also consider what they will be doing while wearing a bag like this, as well as what they would want to carry. Each element of the bag should be geared to what the person will be doing with it.
