Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Classic, Romantic

Materials

fingering weight yarn, US 4 32 inch circular needles. Small size shawl is shown in Cascade Heritage in Turquoise. Large size shawl is shown in Springtree Road Muscadine Sock in Citron.

What was your inspiration?

The yarn was my initial inspiration. I bought a great skein of yarn and it told me it wanted to be a crescent-shaped shawl.

What are you most proud of?

This is my first crescent-shaped shawl design. I worked out a way to create the crescent-shape without short rows or multiple increases across the row. I'm sure it's not an original way to create this shape, but it works!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Run a lifeline before starting the lace. The lace has patterning on both the wrong side and right side rows so it's a little more "difficult" than lace where you just purl (or knit) all the wrong side stitches. Difficulty is in the eye of the beholder though! Stitch markers can help mark the repeats of the lace too.
