This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Machine Quilting Negative Space »

Instructions

This pattern is called Springtime and is by designer Jacqueline de Jonge.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Mod

Materials

I used a variety of 100% cotton and batik fabrics, Cotton batting and Batik wide-back backing.

What was your inspiration?

I took a workshop with the designer Jacqueline de Jonge. I love using batik fabric and bright colours and these two things are really her specialty.

What are you most proud of?

The whole thing :). I'm relatively new to quilting so this is the biggest quilt i've finished so far. I quilted it on my Janome. I loved quilting the swirls. I thought that they tied in well with the circular theme of the quilt and thanks to the Quilting Negative Spaces class on Craftsy I was confident to have a go.

It was my introduction to paper piecing and now i'm in love with that technique.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have a go. Paper piecing is not hard and there are classes here on Craftsy that teach the technique. You can also see Jacqueline demonstrate here paper piecing technique on The Quilt Show.

Thank you. I just watched your lesson, had a quick practice and got stuck in as I had to get it finished to enter in a show. I had plenty of practice on this quilt - that checkerboard circle is just over 50inches across and I went all around the outside.
