Knit in cotton(as shown)or linen or other light/cool fiber it is a perfect all season item, knit in a heavier/warmer fiber great for the colder seasons. No matter the fiber chosen it is easy, fun and quick to knit up. Just a few basic lace stitches needed(listed below). Good project for advancing beginners and fun for more developed knitters as well.
Overview: This easy to knit cowl/snood/wimple(depending on height knit to) is knit in the round, with lead in/out rows of ribbing and the body of the piece being a simple lace mesh- no shaping or difficult stitching, just a simply constucted, elegant look. You can easily knit the piece to be longer or shorter (using more or less yardage) - a longish (15”/38 cm)cowl needs just one ball of worsted weight cotton yarn aprox. 196 yds/ 180m (sample shown -15”- used one ball Knit One Crochet Too TyDy color #289 – 196 yd/180 m). No blocking nescessary but you may do so for the lace mesh section only (do not stretch or block the ribbing)
Stitches used and their abbreviations: CO (cast on) I recommend using the long tail AKA ‘Y’ Cast On but you can use another, K (knit), P (purl, YO (yarn over), slp 1 (slip one stitch,-slipped sts will always be slipped Kwise/as if to knit), psso (pass the slipped stitch over), K2tog (knit 2 stitches together -decreases by one st./used one round only) Kf/b (knit into same stitch thru the front and back- increasing one stitch/used one round only), M (marker), EOR (end of round), rep. (repeat) BO (Bind Off)
Materials: US sz 8(5mm)16”(40 cm) circular needles
for 15” height needs aprox. 190 yds(176 m) worsted cotton -I used Knit One Crochet Too TyDy #289 196 yds(180 m) a true snood/wimple should be at least 21” (53 cm) and uses 267 yds+ (244 m)

One Ball Of Knit One Crochet Too TY-Dy Cotton (worsted weight Cotton 196 yds).
US sz 8 16" circular needles
What was your inspiration?
I had just the one ball of this lovely Ty Dy cotton and wanted to do something special with it that would accentuate and not obscure the gorgoeus mirrored color striping, but still have some patterning more than simple K n P and this was what I came up with.
What are you most proud of?
It is versatile and elegant enough to be knit in any fiber or color, yet still simple enough to show off an interesting coloration effect or texture in the yarn chosen.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
* Note: If you use the Ty Dy and knit longer/shorter than the 15 +/- inches you get with one ball it will not mirror the colors as shown. To get the effect I got you must knit it with just the one ball to about 15" or as far as your particular gauge gets you.
