Easter Banner

Easter Banner

Easter Glory

Instructions

Using a gridded fusible web as my base, I cut 2-1/2" squares and fused them into a patchwork design. After sewing the patchwork background, I appliqued a cross cut from purple fabric that graduates from light purple in the center to darker at the edges. This symbolizes the glory of Jesus' resurrection over the sorrow of the cross. It will hang on the lectern at my church on Easter morning!

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Religious, Holiday, Traditional

Materials

cotton fabrics, gridded fusible web

What was your inspiration?

I was asked by my church to create a banner for Easter, so I set out to design one that showed the triumph over the cross. The center of the cross is "fading" due to the graduated purple fabric I used that is light purple in the center and gradually becomes darker at the edges.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The fusible gridded interfacing that can be purchsed by the yard was extremely helpful in laying out the hundreds of 2-1/2" squares. Also, it makes my points match perfectly once it is sewn!

The cross seems to glow from the center with the graduated shades of color. This is truly a beautiful and meaningful piece of art!

Hi. the banner is lovely. I thought it was Seminole Patchwork when I first looked at it. I made a chausable and stole for my husband with Seminole patchwork 20+ years ago, and it looked a bit like this. Your church will be blessed with this banner Easter season! Beautiful.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I am currently making a stole for the minister to wear at a friend's wedding with a waterfall pattern. It's a challenging, but fun project.
