What was your inspiration?

Spring time in Wisconsin! The violets are blooming, the snow is long gone and a path beckons.

What are you most proud of?

I invented my own piecing technique using a tear-away foundation and even though this quilt is made up of a gazzillion squares, my rows are straight. Lol, I can't tell you how many times I've read the judge's comments "Straight rows need to be straight". Now they are

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Start with simpler projects before you start a larger quilt like this. Collect landscape fabrics when ever you can - even quarter yard pieces can be great to build your fabric collection.

Hi Spooky, for the price of a small car. Lol. I have sold some of my quilts, over the years, but Spring Fling has a lot of sentimental attachment. It has been juried into major shows and won ribbons so it wouldn't be easy to part with. Art quilts used to average about $100 per square foot. (10 years ago). There is a great article about the difficulties of pricing art quilts at this link. http://www.bryerpatch.com/faq/marketing.htm I have not done the math, but my quess is that this quilt would probably in the $3500 range. http://www.bryerpatch.com/faq/marketing.htm

This is also a reminder of spring in Canada, and I think you should have won the contest with this creation!

I think this would have been my first choice too. I've been looking for something like this for a project my daughter's family room.

I'm in awe. You pieced this thing with squares and what looks like triangles. Wow!

Hi there... I'm not nuts and yes I did piece the whole thing with squares and triangles. And rectangles. I use tear -away foundation to piece my quilts though, so its not like I have to sew one square to another, and then to another, etc. I actually patented the technique, and its written up with good illustrations in my book. I'm making strip pieced landscapes using the same kind of thing now and hopefully I'll be adding another project soon. Thanks again for the compliments!

I love Pictured Rocks! We've been there 2-3 times now and I can't wait to get back. What a gorgeous place, a forest, a cold clear lake, and amazing formations and colors in the rocks. Just love it in the UP!

Thank you guys for all the lovely compliments. The pattern for this quilt is in my book. (Watercolor Landscape Quilts). I also have a page on Facebook - Patchworks that Praise - where I have set up some small tutorials on landscape quilt making. (And added some cool videos.) Its a good place to start if you haven't ever tried making a landscape quilt. Here is a link in case you are interested - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Patchworks-that-Praise/175441039143621

I plan on making a tree scene next, I like your leaves and flowers, much nicer than plain old trees and dirt. Great work
