What materials did you use? I used clothesline, 1/2" strips of batik fabric, thread, glue, and a sewing machine.

What are you most proud of? That it's my own design that I haven't seen anywhere else.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? It takes me about 9 hours to wrap the fabric around the clothesline for this project. If you have carpel tunnel or hand problems be sure to wear a splint. Otherwise, just have fun with it. Its a great way to use up leftover 3/4 yard of fabric.

Love this hat. Definitely a great one for spring and summer sun.

I have made the baskets but never thought of the hat, how did you do the brim? I get so many compliment on my bowls I can just imagine what people would say about the hat.

Make your usual basket but to the size of your head and the depth you want. Then turn the basket inside out to begin sewing the brim. Otherwise you would need to zig zag in reverse the entire brim. The tricky part is starting the brim as you need to flatten the last basket row across the sewing machine feed dogs to begain the brim. After the second brim row you are just sewing flat no long at a tilt as you do for your baskets. If you have more questions just ask as I'm not sure I explained that very well.

Very cute! I've never seen anything like it. Clothesline wrapped with fabric and sewn together? Kind of like a coil rug is made? I'll have to see if I can find that book you mentioned.

Its very much like a coil rug. Wrap 1/2" fabric around clothesline and glue every few inches. After wrapping about 80 feet then zig zag together on a machine.
