"Spring Fling" Garden of Dreams

Garden Of Dreams Tapestry

Garden Of Dreams Tapestry

Instructions

Using Japanese 11/0 cylinder beads and peyote stitch I made a base "canvas" that is 3 3/4" wide by 10 3/4" long. The top was wrapped around the tapestry rod and stitched closed. I embellished the entire piece of "Peyote Canvas" that I had made with basically pink and green beads, a little blue and pearls. I wanted to invoke a garden with the disc beads of lampwork glass acting as flowers.

Difficulty:

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Romantic, Whimsical

Materials

Czech glass seed beads, Czech pressed glass beads, Japanese seed beads, dichroic glass, handmade lampwork beads - some made by me, pearls, wooden tapestry rod, silk cord, Nymo D thread.

What was your inspiration?

The lampwork disc beads in greens and pinks - I wanted to create something beautiful with them. A bejewelled jewelry tapestry.

What are you most proud of?

I finished the project!!!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Work out your design on paper when you have collected the beads you love and want to use. Decide how you want to make your base canvas - mine in peyote stitch using 11/0 seed beads took a very long time to make. This was the tedious part - the embellishing kept me up late at nights - such fun!!!!

I will watch for it, Lisa. I posted a wall hanging called "Our Town" that I finished finally. Look at it if you have time. I have been working on a life story "quilt" for 4 years and hope to finish it this year...or at least before I die!

I looked at "Our town" and it is equisite. Your attention to detail is fantastic and I like that in one of your comments you mentioned that you used your own methods to make the quilt, not tradional techniques. One can always break the rules once one knows the rules fully - this makes a great designer and artist. I look forward to your life story quilt.

Love this! Looks like quilting with beads! I use a lot of embellishments on some of my quilts, so really like the look.

Thanks - I love tapestries - I'll post another one soon that I did with Japanese delica beads on a loom that I built in the Navajo tradition of finishing with no leftover warp threads - about 3 years worth of work.
