Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Outdoorsy, Eco-Friendly, Whimsical

Materials

Cotton fabric as the base, transparent paint for eye, beak & legs, embroidery floss for body, head and wings. Although this portion will be embroidered, it will be appliqued on a background for the Colorado Themed Special Exhibit at the Firehouse Quilts 7th Annual Quilt Show in Castle Rock CO July 29 & 21, 2012.

What was your inspiration?

Sandhill Cranes migrating north through Colorado at Monte Vista. Went to the festival a couple of weeks ago. We got to see them very close up while they were feeding in the fields.

The quilt show is July 20 & 21-mistyped it the first time.

What are you most proud of?

the eye-I used transparent paint to make his eye, beak and legs.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Work on it for several hours, every day to see it progress quickly.

Finally finished and was displayed at the Firehouse Quilts 7th Annual Quilt Show July 20 & 21, 2012 in the special exhibit Colorado theme. If you missed the show, our next one is the 3rd weekend of July each year. July 19 & 20, 2012 and that theme will be Patriotic.

Wow, that looks incredible! I wish I could see where he ends up but unfortunately I am not local (I'm from Australia). I hope you are able to post a photo of him on the completed quilt, I would love to see it!

Thank you. Although it is going to be part of a quilt, it is all hand embroidered, and fabric paint created the eye, beak and leggs.
