Spring Blooms Blocks

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2013 with Laura Nownes »

Instructions

I procrastinated on this block, and I am glad I did as I ended up choosing to do all three the same fabrics, and I like how they turned out. I was nervous about the partial seams, but Laura's video was excellent about instructing how to do them. I definitely plan on making this block again (on a larger scale) at some point.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

I used black, white and red fabrics from a variety of lines. I know the red pezzy, the black and white lines are by Me and My sister, and the red sea kelp is from Michael Miller.

What was your inspiration?

I am doing this in black, white and red based on a quilt I saw in the craftsy BOM 2012. I liked the way it turned out and my mother in law likes red, so I figured it would be a good opportunity to make a quilt for her Christmas gift.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I found by making the stacks of the fabric in the order I was planning on doing the strips helped me determine which fabric to choose and the order to do them in. It looked pretty close to the way I expected it to. I recommend watching the video and pressing pause as necessary as you construct the first block. I also recommend sticking to one block at a time, I usually try to chain piece them to go faster, this time, I took my time and did one at a time.
