Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Machine Quilting: Free-Motion & More »

Instructions

Real hard, sew two charm packs together, add inside border, cut two fat quarters to add to sides, quilt it, then cut another fq for border. Fun huh?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Romantic, Classic, Traditional, Casual, Whimsical

Materials

Charm pack and fat quarters

What was your inspiration?

Charm pack on sale! Then I had to figure out what to do with them. So I just started sewing them together and added a bit here and there until I made something useful.

What are you most proud of?

The colors, everything other than the charm packs was from my stash of material, including batting and backing. I wanted to practice quilting, just learning machine quilting. On this runner, I first quilted using my fancy dancy embroidery machine, then I added stipple in the blank areas. I became more comftable with my timing and the tension of the thread as I moved along.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

To practice quilting, make yourself a nice size practice piece and then try different techniques until you are satisfied. Have a sense of humor...I know this is not a masterpiece but it is practical, colorful and I made it all by myself.
