Spindling Project

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Spindling: From Fluff to Stuff »

Difficulty:

Category: Spinning

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Traditional, Classic

Materials

Bottom whorl spindle. Polwarth wool

What was your inspiration?

Dru Pettibone's class on spindling. I haven't touched a spindle in a while and was so excited about this class that I commisioned a wood turner to custom make me four new spindles along with a support bowl for my russian spindle. I decided to use my Cocobolo and Maple Bottom Whorl Drop Spindle for this project. I forgot how much fun spindling is. It was great to be able to take this with me to my knitting goup this morning and spindle while they all watched.

What are you most proud of?

That I was able to get it as thin as I wanted. I plan on dyeing this a pumkpin orange and making some cozy socks!!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Watch the class all the way through once, then go back through it again following along with her. It makes what you're doing much easier as you already have and idea what to do and what's coming next.
