Something Fishy Part 2

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing Texture »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Casual, Funky, Whimsical

Materials

Cotton

What was your inspiration?

I just loved the online workshop that I took with Craftsy. You feel so creative and ready to jump out of the normal and try something new.

What are you most proud of?

I learned how to adjust my stitch length

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just start and don;t expect to get it done in one day, expect to work on it different times while working on other things and each time you get better and better and want to try other stuff like I did. I made a ladies face in fabric because of the class with Wendy Butler Burnes.

Wow, that is really touching. Sometimes when I go shopping, I do not really need anything...we all know how that goes...it boring...well then I started searching for threads, and any kind of embellishments with color and texture and boy you should see my stash now, I do not want to use them, but that is why I purchased them, so little by little I add more and little by little I use them. This type of art has changed my art quilting because i carry a camera with me and I see everything differently, like the eye of an artist. I am almost done with another one that I will post here for you to see. It is for a competition. Thank you and I hope you continue to make art quilts and post them here on Craftsy.com (I just love these people)

I really love what you did with your fish! I'm looking at this on my iPad ...I kept enlarging and enlarging to see the cool detail !! I've made something similar a few years ago, but you inspire me to go back and add more detail....very cool. Thanks for sharing :)

I did the same thing too, I impressed myself. I had a new machine and was not familiar with all of the stitches, so when I put the needle into the fabric...I have to admit I was scared that I was going to ruin the project but it didn;t. So I kept going...if I had an idea..I put that needle into the fabric and did it. This is the best project and so much fun. Thanks for the support

Well, I am really inspired to make art quilts and Wendy really got me started. I love working with all types of threads and fabrics and learning new ways to attach them to my quilt. Right now I am working on a wall quilt which I will be submitting for a contest. Not this "Craftsy Contest" but if I have time, I will be submitting one and then all of my followers can check it out. Sew, Let's Sew our little buts off and see what happens. Thank you everyone who is following me, I sincerely appreciate your comments and time. Kathy

I can not get over how many people like my piece, I suppose that I will need to start another one in a few weeks. THANKS Everyone!! I go to places like hobby lobby and other stores and look for thick threads (on sale) of course and collect them...you never know when you will need threads since this is my new method of having fun. So, my advice is...never throw anything out even a 5" piece of fancy thread. Threads are expensive, way over priced so hang on to everything,.

That is so beautiful and unusual! Are you going to frame it?

Probably not, I think I will add batting on the back and put the trim on as though it were a regular quilt and then hang it on the wall. I think it was in one of these workshops where you put triangles on the top left and right corners and leave them open on the bottom so a dowl rod can be inserted for easy hanging. That is somethig that I really want to try.
