This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Stitch & Slash »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Funky

Materials

Batik fabrics, various threads.

What was your inspiration?

I made these blocks as a test for the Stitch and Slash technique, mostly trying to decide what order to layer my fabrics. But I liked all of them so I put them together into one piece.

What are you most proud of?

Since this didn't start out as a planned project, I didn't always do things in the most logical order...so I'm glad it all worked out and I'm happy with the result.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

At every step, I found I was second guessing myself. Should I slash more, should I add more decorative stitches, should I add more quilting? In the end I realized that as Carol Ann Waugh says, "More is more." Each time I added more elements, I liked the piece even better. So don't hold back....just go for it!

I LOVE this piece -- especially seeing the texture photo! It really shows off the dimensional aspect of this technique. Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks for all your encouragement as I worked on this project! Glad you approve of the "texture" photo. I really wanted to show the 3D aspect. It can be hard to see from a straight on shot.

Thank you. It's really not very difficult at all. Carol Ann Waugh's instructions are so clear and easy to follow. The hardest part is just deciding on the fabrics.
