Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Toy

For: Children

Style: Whimsical, Casual, Classic, Cute

Materials

Men's insulated socks, stuffing and embroidery thread.

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make my grandkids something special and remembered my Grandmother making these for my kids (minus the shirts). Each grandchild also recieved a shirt with a picture of a sock monkey on it.

What are you most proud of?

The monkeys and especially the shirts - I think they make the monkeys special and personal.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time and don't worry about making mistakes.

The "old" socks from years ago had red diamond shaped heel insets on each sock. Hence, the monkey always had a large red diamond shaped smiley mouth, and under the tail a red diamond shaped rear end. They were too cute.

My granny made these for us kids 65 years ago. We loved them!!! My brother's had a tail that was probably 2 feet long because he dragged it around after him by the tail--and of course the tail stretched to its maximum length possible. What memories. Thanks for the lovely 'reminder' of what wonderful 'friends' these toys are for kids!!!

I love how you personalized them! Did you satin stitch the mouths?

Used a satin stitch on some, for others I just used a straight, or line, stitch.

cherylann this is the "pattern" I use. I know it just shows which pieces of the sock to use but I found it really helpful in making my own pattern.
