The tutorial on the site I've linked is pretty good (a Google search will find others, including the classic Red Heel monkey). The only thing I would add is to use a shorter stitch length than your usual (I usually use about 2.5 for normal sewing, for this I use a 2). Also, be prepared for the hole you stuff through to unravel a bit - not a big problem but you may need to darn the opening.Difficulty:

What was your inspiration?
I have a traditional Red Heel monkey that my great-grandmother made, and wanted to try making my own. The sushi monkey was a gift for a sushi- and monkey-loving friend.
What are you most proud of?
These guys make people happy when they see them! How can you not love a purple-striped monkey? :) It was fun making the sushi, also.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Have fun with different color socks - no need to stay traditional! I get socks at the dollar store, you can also combine singleton socks for a unique monkey. If you have to choose, use longer socks rather than shorter - you can always cut off the extra length.
