Snowflake Angel Tree Topper »

Difficulty:

Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Cute, Traditional, Classic, Holiday, Retro / Vintage

Materials

200 yds. (183 m) White cotton crochet thread, size 10; a size 7 (1.65 mm) steel crochet hook; and stitch markers. Additional materials for stiffening include: manila file folders, clear contact paper, foam-core board, small amount of stuffing, fabric stiffener, paper towel, plastic wrap, and straight pins. Optional materials for table stand include: 3/16" diameter dowel rod, 4" circular wooden plaque, 2 16 mm wooden beads with 3/16" hole in center, glue, and white paint.

What was your inspiration?

I love snowflakes and try to incorporate them into designs whenever possible. Creating a snowflake angel is a project I had wanted to do for a long time.

What are you most proud of?

I am so pleased with the way this turned out. The angel has wings and a halo made of snowflakes; and the skirt is created using a snowflake-like design. I am also very happy with the table stand I created so the angel could be used as a centerpiece, too!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you love thread crochet, this is a great project for the intermediate crocheter. Instructions are also included to make the form to stiffen the angel and to create the optional table stand.

The finished height is 11-1/2" tall.

The pattern is available for $3.50 and is written in U.S. terms.

Wow, she is beautiful! I have about 5,000...(or maybe even a million!!!) cotton doilies crocheted by my mom who was a crochet MACHINE...God bless her! I haven't found any appropriate use for them until I saw your angel! Wonderful creative work!

Thank you! I like to use Aleene's Fabric Stiffener. I can usually find it at JoAnn. They carry it online also at joann.com.

That is so pretty! I haven't had any luck finding fabric stiffener in the past. Where do you purchase yours and what brand do you use?

Perfect little Christmas project. You could also put those cool-to-the-touch LED lights up inside her skirt & a light in each hand...so sweet

She is really lovely! There is so much that could be added to her ,or done up in metallic thread, I bet she would be a great table centerpiece as well. She is different from the tree toppers you usually see,and this is a nice change
