Instructions

I didn't use the smocking pattern included in the magazine - I invented my own pattern of really basic stitches, since I haven't been smocking very long.

Difficulty:

Category: Embroidery

Type of item: Clothing

For: Children

Style: Cute, Traditional, Formal / Bridal

Materials

Bamboo Satin fabric, embroidery floss, press studs

What was your inspiration?

I made this while pregnant as a special occasion outfit.

What are you most proud of?

My daughter wore it to 3 weddings before she was 2 months old, and is still wearing it at 4 months - it has been so versatile - worn over a long-sleeve sleepy suit, with the bloomers from the pattern, with long pants, and with just a nappy, it still looks cute and is really soft and comfortable.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I really recommend the bamboo satin for embroidery - it's just delightful to work with. http://www.hempco.net.au/shop/Hemp-Textiles-Bedding/Hemp-Fabrics
