What was your inspiration?

I have done a little smocking before, quite a long while ago, but had the idea that it would be a great technique to use to make a headband.

What are you most proud of?

I have not seen a headband like this before, so I was really pleased with the originality of the idea. It makes the headband really comfortable to wear, and easy to fit. I was also happy with my colour choice, as I think this particular band will go with a lot of outfits.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Setting up your gathers took me has much time as the actual embroidery. Only embark on this project if you like a bit of hand sewing. Once you get on to the hand embroidery that is the fun part. Mine did take a few evenings, but once you settle into the rhythm of stitching it is really fun, and you quite quickly get stunning results.
