What was your inspiration?
Wanted to experiment with three-dimentionsal applique. Inspiration came from finding the second border fabric at the store that would match perfectly the charm pack used. Decided to include the butterflies in the middle of the quilt, on the tree-shaped quilting. Found complementing fabric with flowers that I cut for the appliques.
What are you most proud of?
The quilting, that I designed directly on the finished quilt top with air-erasable pen. Also the vine that took for ever to complete. Each grape was made by hand individually and then sewed on the quilt top. Same thing for the leaves that were quilted separately with art thread before being partially appliqued on the vine.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Be patient. Be prepared to do a lot of hand work in addition to machine work.
