Instructions

Though this quilt pattern looks simple and straight forward; it isn't for the beginning quilter. The pattern calls for turning under seams using butcher paper and had I not already done this, I probably would have had a problem understanding the concept. One could make it simpler by using raw edge applique. The bees are small pieced blocks, not appliques.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Infant/Baby

Style: Casual, Outdoorsy, Cute, Whimsical, Funky

Materials

cotton fabrics, batting, butcher paper, basic supplies and equipment

What was your inspiration?

My husband and I are beekeepers. I needed a quilt for a neighbor's baby and since they have to live next to the beekeepers; I thought this pattern was perfect. (Actually my husband talked me into buying the pattern.

What are you most proud of?

It turned out very cute and my choice of fabrics worked well.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't plan on this being a quick project. It took more time than I imagined it would. Have fun, as always.

The little bear stands out so much because he had additional batting. The vest opens to reveal a heart. The pattern called for "I love honey" to be embroidered on the heart, but I sewed, "I love you!" instead.
