Patons Lace yarn in bonfire
What was your inspiration?
I had just began knitting when I came across Craftsy and the Mastering Lace Shawls class. I thought it would be a nice way to advance my skills quickly so I could make beautiful shawls like the ones I'd seen on Knitty and Ravelry. And I did! The class was awsome and I really enjoyed it,
What are you most proud of?
I am so happy that I am now a confident lace knitter! I no longer consider myself a beginner only capable of producing simple scarves. And I'm falling in love with lace...I signed up for Laura's beaded knitting class as well and plan to knit Clarus (the other pattern from this class) with beads.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Just follow along with the instructor and don't be afraid of the edging, it is easier than it seems. I set the project aside for a while because I didnt want to mess up at the very end, but it was actually one of the funnest parts of the project. As you can see I blocked my shawl into a cresent shape rather than a half circle and made the edging pointy rather than scallopped. It just wasn't working out any other way for me, and this was the only way I could get everything to lie flat. I love the result, even though I deviated a little from the instructions. I highly doubt the knitting police or Laura Nelkin will come after me for doing it my own way. Don't be afraid to deviate a little and make your shawl your own.
