Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Knit This: Mastering Lace Shawls »

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Casual, Traditional, Classic

Materials

Isager Alpace Merino yarn, 50% Alpaca 50% Merino Wool, fingering weight

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to learn how to knit lace and thought a shawl would be a great accessory to have.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud that I learned some techniques that will be useful in all kinds of knitting and that I completed the project in a somewhat timely manner! I am better at reading charts now and am looking forward to tackling even more intricate lace projects.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be alarmed when the knitting looks crumpled and not very pretty. It really does block out beautifully and changes the whole look of the shawl. I was a bit embarrassed to show a friend the work in progress; was she ever surprised to see the final, blocked shawl!

Following the comments of others during the course, I added a section to make the shawl a bit bigger than the pattern. I'm glad I did as I like the finished size.

I did exactly the same thing you did to make my shawl longer. I just finished mine, it's nice to see how it will look once it dries! Your's is really pretty!

Thanks! I'm glad I added a bit more before the edging - it's a good length. Looking forward to seeing yours!
