Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Knit This: Mastering Lace Shawls »

Instructions

Follow Laura and she will guide you all the way. I used lifelines and stitch markers throughout. Ran out of yarn after the 9th repeat of the edging. I had purchased a 2nd skein just in case.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Classic, Formal / Bridal

Materials

String Theory Bluestocking in Didgeridoo

What was your inspiration?

Used the same yarn as Laura had used for this project. The colorway is beautiful.

What are you most proud of?

That I did it!!!!! I'm a new knitter and I found this Craftsy class was so helpful. A great experience.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time and enjoy each step. If you have to rip back, consider it a learning experience. You will have a work of art when you are done. So, be patient!

I purchased online at www.stringtheoryyarn.com. Great customer service and very friendly. If they don't have the color you want, email them and they will let you know they are dying another batch. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I would encourage you to go for it. However, I must warn you........you may become addicted like many of us. I got the basics down and jumped into Laura Nelkin's class Mastering Lace Shawls. I was quite adventurous but with years of crochet under my belt, I was familiar with working with yarn. Plus, my desire to knit was very strong. With as talented as you are, I encourage you to try it. YouTube has some excellent tutorials as well. Lots of information out there.

I can't believe you are a new knitter. You really have a lot of talent! Your holes are the same size and everything. I would wear this on a night out with a black dress!

Reply to this comment...Thank you. I used the same yarn as Laura did. It is String Theory Hand Dyed in Didgeridoo . They have beautiful yarn and wonderful service. If you are on Ravelry, I posted more pics there. This yarn photographs so differently based on the type of light. Iit is a bit more on the blue side.

Thank you. Good luck on your own Skywalker. It is well worth knitting and will bring you tons of compliments when you wear it. It was my first lace shawl and I learned so much. Seeing everyone's shawl is such a thrill. I encourage you to begin yours. :)

Thank you. I also love your Skywalker. Beautiful. It is great seeing all of the finished projects from Laura's class. Each one has unique character inspired by the knitter. Enjoy your shawl. I wear mine a lot.

Thank you. In order to get the stitch definition, I had to use a flash. The yarn color changes depending upon the light. It is really lovely yarn.

I used String Theory Bluestocking in Didgeridoo. It is the same yarn that Laura used in the class. It photographs very different. If you use Ravelry, I have it posted there with many other pictures. The colors change depending on the light. I needed to use a flash for the picture as I was more interested in getting the stitch detail.

I'm sure yours will be beautiful. I was worried how mine would turn out when I was knitting. However, look how great everyone's shawl has turned out. Yours will too. Make sure you post your picture when you finish.
