What materials did you use? I used two skeins of Knit Picks Gloss fingering yarn in Winter Night. I did run out of yarn and had to order another skein to finish the last three inches of border. The shawl was fun to make and pretty easy, too. My biggest difficulty was the color - it's very dark and the stitches were difficult to see without an Ott- Lite.

What are you most proud of? Figuring out what to do when I knew I was running out of yarn. I had two choices- I could rip all of the border out and make a simpler border, or I could take a chance and order another skein of yarn. I did get the yarn and even though the dye lots are different, it doesn't show at all.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Buy enough yarn and make swatches of the patterns. I always make swatches (blocked) and that makes lace knitting much easier because you're familiar with the stitches, the drape and the look of the lace before you even jump in. Learn to read your knitting from the front and back, that way when you're purling back you can check your stitches. Finally, don't be afraid of lace. If you can knit, purl, yarn over, decrease and count, then you can knit lace.
