Materials

Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light hand dyes - 100% superwash merino wool. Color: logwood Knitpicks circulars size US 7 (4.5 mm).

What was your inspiration?

A beautiful skein of yarn and idle hands. I've had this skein laying around since last year waiting for it to tell me what it wanted to be. I also had so much fun knitting Laura Nelkin's Skywalker pattern the first time that I couldn't wait to try it with a different yarn.

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of not totally freaking out when I was 1/3 of the way through the edging stitch before I realized that I didn't have enough yarn to finish. Since this was a moderately expensive (for me) skein of hand dyed, I couldn't simply run out to my LYS and buy more yarn. I just put the shawl away for two weeks, then set aside a few hours to rip and redo. No stress. ;)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This was only my second shawl ever and I learned so much in the class - even some general skills that translated to non-shawl projects. If you are on the fence about taking the class, go for it!

This is such a great stash busting project, I think, because you can modify it pretty easily if you think you might run out of yarn. I had 420 yards of yarn, but I used larger needles thank called for in the pattern, so my yardage didn't go as far. Good luck, on your project!
