Skirt

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing Studio: Fashion Fitting, Home Decor & More »

Instructions

I went with the basic black Linen Blend material, after I finished I wish I had gone with a more colorful fabric, plus this type of material tends to ravel at all cut seams, so it is wise to use methods to control the ravel.,

My next skirt will be made of a nice cotton print with a bit of lycra or spandex with a bit less raveling

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Classic, Traditional

Materials

Linen Blend

What was your inspiration?

How feminine and put together a pencil skirt can make you feel, when I could not find one that suited me, I was inspired to make my own.

What are you most proud of?

That I was able to complete the skirt even though I had never sewn clothing before

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Diana is very detailed and clear during the online course, you will learn alot but when you are done, you will marvel at the fact that you did this, how awesome is that.

Now THAT is a timeless classic! How elegant it is, and will look smashing with your tiny waist. Well done! May I ask, what is the fabric? It looks like pure wool suiting from here, but it's hard to tell when fabrics are solid darks. thanks!

Thank you. My tiny waist :-) I wish, I did what all the stores do, I pinned the skirt in the back. I used a linen blend fabric, I have worned the skirt twice to work and it does not wrinkle like 100% linen does, so I would definitely use this fabric type again.

I made the skirt and was very pleased. Diana's instructions were great. Now I want to make the skirt again and insert a zipper in the entire back. Since I've never sewed before is this possible?

I don't see why not, only need to change from a split in the back to normal seams like you did for the short zipper and you can install any length zipper you want. Good Luck make sure to post pictures if you do make it.
