What was your inspiration?

My sister-in-law, Lorna, and I decided to make a quilt together for my younger sister, Diane. We chose the "Sister's Choice" block and designed the quilt top ourselves. We had a great time selecting fabrics and beginning to piece the blocks together while on a shared vacation. But we live in different states, so we had split up the rest of the work and mail it back and forth to one another.

What are you most proud of?

How much Diane loves the quilt, and how happy Lorna and I were as we created it together.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Traditional quilt blocks are a great starting point for designing your own quilt. All it takes is graph paper and colored pencils, and probably a bit of math, to design a quilt.

I used a book with block patterns, but you can find the Sister's Choice block pattern online also. Here is one site: http://www.quiltaholics.com/bom/sischc.htm

WOW. This quilt is really pretty. I can tell you all had fun with it. Great Job. I found out just lately that I do not have any/very little brown fabrics. When I get rid of the stuff I do have and no plans to use any of it, I will look for more browns, golds, etc. to put in my stash. Thanxs for the insperation. Bev B Was this a hard quilt to do?

Thanks, Bev. The only thing hard about this quilt was that each block has a lot of pieces. We had to lay out each block carefully before sewing. After a few blocks, we came up with a sequence for sewing the pieces and pressing the seams that made the work a little easier. The important thing was to make sure that adjoining seams were going in opposite directions to reduce bulk. As I recall, we drew a diagram showing which was to press the seams to avoid getting confused. It was a lot of fun, especially since we were working together on it.
