Sidekick Mini Suitcases

Make It

This project was made from an independent Craftsy designer's pattern:
Sidekick Mini Suitcase »

Instructions

Four little suitcases for four little kids, made with the pattern available for sale from Sew Fearless.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Children

Style: Retro / Vintage, Cute

Materials

Canvas, Quilting Cotton, Heavy Duty Stabilizer, Interfacing, zippers, pastic canvas

What was your inspiration?

Need. Seriously. 4 kids, ages 6 and under, they need to start pulling their own weight. ;) I wanted them to have bags that they could pack and tote themselves. Me, being Sew Fearless, I needed to do something different with the design than your typical duffle or backpack.

I was inspired by old school leather and canvas suitcases, but added a youthful twist to it with the colorful cotton patches.

What are you most proud of?

That the vision in my head made it out into reality. It was worth all the brainstorming sessions, pin stabbings, and late nights to have my kids pack themselves for trips. Happy kids, happy mama.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It is an intimidating project, but the pattern breaks it down into manageable chunks. This is totally doable by an intermediate sewist who wants to stretch their sewing wings a bit more.

Great job! No easy task. I bet the kids really like them too. These are fashion magazine items. Wish we could see the cuties carrying their cases. Really inspiring.
