This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Classic Tailored Shirt »

Instructions

I improved the fit of the self drafted collar band on this size 2 boys shirt. Top stitched the shorts and hat with orange thread. Used a new technique of stiching ontop of waist elastic which made the waist bigger than in previous versions of these shorts that I have made - however he will grow into them.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Boys

Style: Outdoorsy, Classic, Cute

Materials

Shirting Cotton

What was your inspiration?

I was making the orange check into father and son shirts for my brother and nephew and my grey shirt material arrived from UK and looked so cool with the orange I thought I would make my nephew the complete set.

What are you most proud of?

getting the collar right and orange topstitching - first time I have tried contrasting stitching and I am pleased with how straight and neat it is.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

be careful of streaching elastic - also mothers seem to want clothes in sizes that are too big so they will last more than one season.

Thanks Pam ... I just love making shirts and am starting to get more professional results with my collars. I have made three others this month but am waiting to pin fit them on their owners so I will be posting more shirt variations soon. I think it's wonderful that you take the time to comment on student projects, it's really encoraging.
