What was your inspiration?
Our Vacation Bible School kids were raising funds for ShelterBox, a humanitarian aid group. Someone took lots of photos. I picked out some of the best and printed them to fabric. I found some great "cosmic" fabric with the colors of the kids' caps for the quilt front. The quilt back was a wavy windowpane check in the same colors. We raffled the quilt off to raise money.
What are you most proud of?
This quilt looks nothing like the ladybug quilt, except in the basic design. It was much more difficult than I anticipated. I'm proud that I completed it by myself, and managed to machine quilt it on my home sewing machine.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Pay attention! Because the rows are assembled diagonally, it's really easy to get off course. I wound up doing some frog sewing (rip-it, rip-it) to get back on track when the quilt top turned out wider than it was tall. But I loved it, and hated to raffle it off.
