What was your inspiration?

My inspiration is to make wholesome, healthy soap for my family and friends.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

My advice to anyone wanting to try cold process soap making would be, don't be afraid, follow the directions, Alia is a wonderful teacher. Most importanly, always, always, always, wear the safety goggles, gloves (there are latex free gloves) and everything else to keep yourself and those around you safe.
I have found this is fun and we are anxiously awaiting our soaps to cure so we can use them.

I think I'll try some non fragranced. I have to say the two batches I've made, I really don't care for the fragrance. Yours looks so nice.

Hi talkeetnagirl, It is looking as though my first response to your question did not post. Hmmm... Anyway, Thank you. We really like this soap. I used the oils from the Coconut Lime Soap Recipe, except I used Palm Kernel Flakes instead of the oil and also added about 4 oz of Shea Butter. Did not add any of the other ingredients, no fragrance etc. I then ran the new recipe through the lye calculator at www.brambleberry.com. Oh yes, I also superfatted at 3% when running it through the calculator. It is more of a cream color.

Hi! Thank you. That was my first attempt at soap. I used the recipe for the Coconut Lime Soap, but only for the oils. Even then, I used Palm Kernel Flakes instead of the oil and added about 4 oz of Shea Butter. I then ran the new recipe through the lye calculator at www.brambleberry.com. Really like their website and the service from them. Hope all goes well with your soap.

Yes! I like to make soap more than the lip balms and salves...maybe because you can play more with the scents and color than those. Is funny because I made my first batch of soap with no problems considering I'm novice but the my fisrt batch of the lip balm and salve did't turned so well...and the soap making is more complicated!! LOL
