Instructions

I used this raw silk yarn to bridge the late summer/early fall evening chill. Makes a great engagement gift or a honeymoon gift for the bride! The first one I made was in a candlelight cream color. This color made a dreamy evening wrap. Low yardage, one size fits all. Choose a great shawl pin or use a favorite vintage pin.

What was your inspiration?

The 2008 Vogue cover shawl/shrug was the inspiration for this design. I have made many of these Vogue designs and have auctioned them for charity, but I found them to be a large time commitment; each one takes over 45 hours to complete. i designed this as a project that is do-able in about 9 or 10 hours yet the knitter can have a wonderful experience exploring new stitch combinations. Some of my students have used a blend of wool silk and metallic for a dressy evening scarf.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the drape of the shawl and how it fits neatly in a very romantic way in the space between the chin and the elbow. It has a shear, lacy quality and uses a knit wrapping technique to create a detailed woven look. I am an architect/designer who also appreciates the concentric or rounded form of this piece. The edge stands up toward the neck like a detailed off the shoulder collar. This gives the Shawlette by SagamoreLane @ etsy.com structural integrity.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

When you begin hold aside approximately 6 yards of yarn to use to complete the edge pattern. I can then use all the remaining yarn as the pattern repeats itself every four rows, and it is one size fits all.
