Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Classic, Casual

Materials

Cotton prints from Hydrangea Bouquet collection, Warm and Natural batting

What was your inspiration?

My summer quilting buddy and I chose our fabric and decided on the placement of our colors. During the winter I made 24 blocks of my choice and she made hers. We then trade 12 and then arrange our quilt to our own satisfaction. The following summer we have a show and tell to share our finished quilts.

What are you most proud of?

I am so happy to have a friend who will play the game with me over the winter. We each live in different countries, but the distance doesn't matter.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This is such a fun way to keep in touch with someone who shares your interest. Find a quilting friend and get started on a project that takes you shopping, sewing, quilting and visiting'; whether it's in person or over the miles. It's very rewarding.

Me and my sister did something similar years ago. We both did an online mystery quilt. She made one for me and I made one for her. Same pattern, but with different colors and a different placement, they are so different. I cherish the quilt she made for me.

The quilts are almost as beautiful as the friendship. Everyone needs such a friend.

These are both beautiful quilts. What a wonderful plan - fun and practical at the same time. What a treat to have at the end of the project. I tried something similar with a fat quarter with a friend, but unfortunately, she is a knitter not a quilter and cannot really get with the concept of cutting up pcs of fabric and sewing them back together! Of course, I cannot conceive of putting yarn and needles together for hours and having two inches to show for it. LOL I'll stick with the quilting. And look for a friend who might enjoy it too

Love this idea! The quilts are lovely - such soft feminine colors and your blocks fit together beautifully.
