What materials did you use? Pre-quilted fabric (1 yard will yield a few mats depending on the size of your machine), double fold binding to match, sewing thread.

What are you most proud of? Realizing I could save so much time buying pretty pre-quilted fabric! I always wondered what people used it for and now I know it's for projects like this.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? When purchasing pre-quilted fabric use a coupon! It is waaaay too expensive trying to buy it at the regular price (normally $19.99) so use a 50% off coupon and get a yard for $10. You can make two or three mats and even sell one to your friends! Some people prefer to just fold up the bottom portion where the pocket goes so you don't have to put binding all the way around. It may also be a good idea to put some non-skid cabinet liner on the bottom of the mat to keep it from moving around when you lift up your sewing machine.

I thought this was a great idea so I made one from scratch by cutting the material and quilting it and making the pocket. It came out wonderful going to make three more for my other machines.

Very cute, I have been thinking about making a mat very similar to this! I guess I need to get busy now, thanks.
