I forgot to ask...what is your favorite brand of thread. Any and all comments greatly appreciated.

I usually use Gutterman or Metler. But I wouldn't worry so much about which brand as long as it is the right thread for the fabric. :)

Love your dress!! You said you can make this from the included pattern? Also, you said you used a different pattern for the skirt, what was the name and # of the pattern? Do you think think this would work on a small busted person? Thanks for any help. ;-)

I use 3/4 skirt pattern, which you can draft easily or there's a burdastyle pattern (Linda) that you can adapt. I think it can definitely work on any shape :)

Gorgeous and nicely finished. How do you keep the top tucked in? Did you add stays or other fastening devices to the bottom of the bodice?

I have a waist stay, and I decided to lengthen the bustier slightly (by an inch or so). :)

Beautiful dress! How did you substitute the skirt with a circle skirt? I love the circle skirt design. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Girlygeek. I used the Linda skirt pattern from BurdaStyle (also listed in the course material) to make separates. So the skirt is actually not attached to the bustier. But I guess if you wan you can do that too....following the same principle as the original skirt part, only substitute it with the right size Linda :)

I want to make this dress! How do I get started?
Chance Of Rain on craftsy.com

Hi Sumadays7234736, I learnt how to make this dress from the Sew Retroonline course (taught by Gertie of The blog for better sewing). It is the online class provided here at Craftsy! I highly recommend it as you can learn how to sew a bustier at your own pace. Gertie is amazing and it is definitely worth the money you pay. Ive learned alot of techniques from this course! It also comes with PDF pattern and ideas for variations! I hope this help!

I want to make this dress for my sister's wedding in Sacramento in June. What kind of fabric did you use and where does the dress hit you (and how tall are you, because I'm 5'10")?
Chance Of Rain on craftsy.com
Jan 15, 2012   Flag as inappropriate
Hi Jenny Cooke, the fabric I used is 75% Cotton 25% spandex. It is a midium weigh fabric with a very slight stretch. I don't really know what it is called but it is used for making flamenco dresses. I am 160cm (I think that is 5"?) and the skirt (it is actually a separate not one piece dress) is a tea length. But you can alter that how you like. I didn't use the actual skirt from the pattern from burdastyel but I substituted it with a circle skirt instead. Hope that helps. Let me know if I can be of more help. I wore this to a wedding too! It was great! You look completely different and stand out in the 50's style!
