Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Classic, Traditional

Materials

Cotton leftovers from previous projects plus fat quarters.

What was your inspiration?

Amy Gibson's Block of the Month Course 2012.

What are you most proud of?

Getting most of the joins (but not all, I'm afraid) to match - there are an awful lot of them! I used three fabrics (two patterned and one background) rather than the two suggested by Amy on the course. This gave loads of different possible permutations for the finished block and I've posted pictures of some of the ones that were considered. However, in the end I rather liked the one that reminded me of the beachballs I played with at the seaside when I was a child and sewed that one together for the quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun playing "jig-saw puzzles" with the 16 three-and-a-half-inch squares that you end up with before you decide on your eventual block and sew it all together.

Thank you - this one was fun, despite the curved seams.

It was fun, crawling around on the floor, playing "jig-saw puzzles" while my husband sat in the chair, making unhelpful remarks!

Goos Heavens - I can just imagine trying to match up all the joins in a whole quilt of this pattern! My head is aching already!

You've got that right! I don't know which would be more of a challenge - hexis or drunkard's path!
