Sept BOM #3

butterfly drunkards
moonrise

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Whimsical

Materials

batiks

What was your inspiration?

wanted something different for the batiks - I seem to be experimenting with this colorway

What are you most proud of?

Circles are done! I didn't particularly enjoy this month's blocks but they are done now.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If I were to do any more drunkard's path blocks I would definitely get the templates. Now I can throw away my slightly beat-up cardboard templates!

Hey Darns -- I just have finally now got my Moonrise block going! I just realized, looking again at your *beautiful* block, that I've reversed my colors. I have my dark colors on the bottom, lightening as they go up! I may have to call mine Mountain Sunrise! Oop. (Also, I had no idea all those little circle pieces would be so difficult to work with -- gack!)

Hi, Alyx, I thought those curved pieces were a pain also - cutting & sewing

I did have the grid paper out for these! One of my guilty pleasures is having Sharpies in all colors. As a kid, there was nothing better than getting the big box of new crayons.

Thank you, Angela! Aren't these batiks just great? I'm so glad I decided to go for the 12 fat quarter bundle when I saw these. There wasn't one fabric in the bundle I didn't like.

Love, love, love your Moonrise! I searched Houston high and low for the templates that first weekend and then ordered from Createforless.com. I've gotten them but haven't addressed this yet. Can't wait to play this weekend! Thanks for the inspiration!

Very creative, and much more nicer, than Amy's! I still try to find a pattern with the drunken whatever-it-is-called that I want to do. But you blocks gives me more inspiration, than anything else on the web!!! Hope, you are okay with it, when I copy your pattern for my quilt...?! Greetings from Canada =)

I'm sure your beaten up templates will survive one more set of these... my fabric is in the mail! LOVE these batik ones Darns, and not just coz they're batik either... love what you've done with the curves... neither of these are drunk, that's for sure! WTG Darns!

Thanks, Pam, but you're too late! cardboard templates in the trash already. Did you notice that on what I thought looked like butterflies that I have 6 solid blocks - it was 6 less curves to do!

This may the way to go. I am still waiting for templates to arrive in the mail but if I have trouble with the original block, I may use these butterflies just to have less curves to piece!
