What was your inspiration?
I thought it was a really cute skirt and since I like to crochet clothing I thought I would try it. I have actually made 2 the other one is done in two tone. The pattern wasn't too difficult and also has a diagram of the pattern which makes a little easier to follow

What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Make sure you have the measurements for the hips. It does have a lot of give. I worked mine in a sports yarn it calls for Luster sheen but I got a long fine with just changing the yarn. If you want to you can join at the seam and avoid sewing the back up.
