Seaside Coasters

close-up
Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Casual, Traditional

Materials

Bernat Handicrafter cotton yarn (color: Hippi)

What was your inspiration?

As usual, I was looking for a way to use up some leftover yarn from another project. The colors of this variegated yarn reminded me of a seaside cottage.

What are you most proud of?

I just chose a block from one of my crochet books, and it turned into some nice-looking coasters with the addition of reverse-single-crochet (crab stitch) edging.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You don't always have to have a pattern. Let the yarn speak for itself, and use your books and patterns for inspiration. Then make something of your own design!

Hi I really like the shape and the fact that it will work with variegated color yarn! Is this pattern available and where?

Thanks! I used a book called "Super Finishing Techniques for Crocheters", which has all kinds of edgings, trims, fastenings, construction techniques, and other useful information on crochet. The hexagon medallion instructions are in a section called "Crochet Basics". Figuring you may not want to buy the book, I found a similar set of instructions online at http://robotrish.com/post/395617972/how-to-crochet-a-hexagon-pattern, or you might even be able to find an instructional video on YouTube, who knows? Good luck!
