What was your inspiration?
This is a 'teaching' quilt - in which I took some 3" squares to a Women's group at our Church, and taught them the 1st steps of quilting - the 1/4" seam allowance. Then I sashed it, quilted it, and put the binding on.. (It is also a GREAT project to teach kids)
This is also a Donation Quilt. It will go to the Lester Roloff Homes, in Texas, which is a 'half-way' house for kids in trouble, but not bad enough for jail.
On the back of the quilt - I put a strip of verses, so that as the child pulls the covers up, the last thing they will see before 'lights out' will be a message they can 'sleep with'.
What are you most proud of?
That it is 'Pretty" :-)
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
As I make a quilt - I put all my scrap pieces into a special box. Then (usually once a year) I go through and cut the pieces into squares - which varies from 2.5" to 10". I keep the like kind in containers and use these 'squared' scraps for when I need pieces for applique, paper-piecing, or a 'scrap' quilt much like the one you see here. (see the picture of part of my 'stash' WHEEPEE!!! :-) :-)
