Instructions

This pattern is pretty much as easy as knitting gets. It’s the perfect keeping-your-hands-busy-while-doing-something-else kind of knitting, in two sizes, that as it turns out, fit just about everyone. It also happens to be the ideal stash busting project. In fact, that’s the whole idea behind it! It also knits up extremely quick. Like, need a gift for tomorrow? This is the way to go, quick.

Materials

Scraps of worsted and bulky yarn.

What was your inspiration?

Honestly, I needed a quick gift one night for a friend's children. I wanted to make something that I knew she would find cute, but that would also be useful. I was at home with the kids already in bed when I started, so obviously I need something I could make with supplies that I had on hand. And I needed to make two, in one night, so it needed to be a quick, quick knit!

What are you most proud of?

How loved these hats have been. The mother of the original recipients sent me a picture of the two of them (ages 1 and 3) wearing these wool hats with shorts and tee-shirts on a 90 degree day! Now that's love.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun with it! Especially with the color choices. You can really get into playing with how one color fades into the next. And finding ways to slip in those little scraps of yarn; you know the ones that you have no idea what to do with, but you couldn't stand to get rid of. This, this is where to use them! It can be kind of addictive.

Hi Lorna, If you go into the post with the pattern and scroll down to the comments, someone else asked about i-cord as well and I posted links to a tutorial and youtube video which should explain everything. Please let me know if you need any further assistance!
