What materials did you use? 100% Cotton quilting fabric for top, muslin backing, low-loft polyester batting.

What are you most proud of? I like the blue and white contrast. I used all sorts of prints, including Holiday, and some funky batiks that you would not think would work well but in the end, it all flowed together nicely, or so I think. Oh, and the border is paper pieced. I took those bargain brand writing tablets and cut the paper length-wise, so one sheet made two 4 1/4 by 11 inch strips. I taped them together until I had 4 looong strips [for each side of the quilt], and just began sewing scraps on the paper without measuring, or anything. I just made sure the fabric covered the paper. I trimmed the fabric to the strips' edges, and it was super easy to tear the paper off, since it was "bargain" paper - the perfect paper piecing tool!

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Just relax, have fun, and take your time. Don't overhink it. I certainly didn't. Easy, easy to put together and quilt.

Desna, I am also still just practicing! Don't look too closely - the FMQ is nowhere near as straight as I would like it to be, but I just decided to have fun, enjoy the process, and not stress over such little things like perfectly straight lines. Hahaha. I encourage you to take the leap of faith and start to FMQ on an actual quilt. :-) :-) :-) :-)

Don't be worried about how straight your quilting lines are! Embrace the wonky! I think it adds a lot of charm to a great boy's quilt.

Thanks, Darns. I did embrace the wonky - partly because I had no choice! Hahaha. But I do like the final look of the quilt.

oh, dude, it turned out SEW nicely!!! I almost died when i saw the little charlie brown (a fave in this house) - it is adorable!! now...i am a 100% warm and natural girl but you just might have me trying l.l. polyester batting - it looks so puffy and cozy!!! what brand do you use? how is it to quilt??? speaking of quilting, i love the lines - the quilting is perfect for this piece. very creative job on that border too - thinking outside the box (for me anyway! lol!) using paper piecing. i am almost always doing machine binding now - is that a blanket stitch? looks great - can you post or email me a close up of the binding? i want to try it! which # stitch did you use? is it the horizon? thanks Jose!

Wow, thanks Angie. That's a lot of questions, he he he. Let me gather up the info/pics and I will be emailing you shortly.

Okay, Angie, I totally spaced out and did NOT save your email, so this is the only other way I have to get you the information... here goes! I use Mountain Mist batting, there are different lofts, so I use the Quilt Lite, which is their lowest loft poly batting. I have not had any issues quilting it. One thing though is I've not had great luck spray basting it, so I just make sure I pin baste securely. You can quilt up to 5 inches apart. The binding stitch I use was a Horizon stitch, it's number 113 in the quilting group of stitches and.... I did NOT save your email, Bad QuiltDude, so I've posted on pic of the binding, close up. Forward me an email again, if you want a closer look at the binding, I took a couple of extra shots. Hope this helps you!!!
