Scrap yarn vest

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual

Materials

These were all left over yarns in the house, some Reynold's mohair, some 25 year old scraps from Finland, etc. The clasp is a Norvegian clasp.

What was your inspiration?

I actually started a shawl, but then my daughter pointed out that she liked the materials and the colors, and I turned the whole thing into a vest

What are you most proud of?

It actually was given to a young woman starting college in the fall - it is so cute on her and I'm sure it'll fit her new career as a humanities student very well.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Sometimes the project talks to you half way, be brave to change the target goal if it seems that you'll get something better or more useful out of it by diverting from your original plans.

Is there a pattern?

No, sorry. It was knitted as one piece up to the arms, then split into front and back pieces, angular reductions in the front to create a V-neck. The pattern I believe was one row of *yo,k*, and release the yo on the reverse side when you knit the stitches to get an elongated shape. Looks like there's also two rows of nothing but all knits between the pattern rows, but I really don't remember. I was pulling leftover and scrap yarns from my stash, and I was more interested in the colors blending nicely as this was a 'no-cost at all' project.
