Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Design Your Own Handbag »

Instructions

I didn't use a pattern for this project, just the very clear instructions from Brett.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Classic, Casual

Materials

recycled linen wall fabric, cotton fabric, purse hardware (magnetic snap, d-rings, rivets), zippers

What was your inspiration?

I've had this fabric since the 1980's - it came off some walls in a demo. Since it has a trace of glue on one side, it wasn't useful for many things. It occurred to me it was the perfect thing to use for a test bag to learn the techniques in Brett's class.

What are you most proud of?

I learned a lot making this first bag - not TOO many mistakes. It gave me confidence to try more things.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Measure carefully

Thanks! I put the tabs on the bag after I sewed the outsides together, leaving them far enough down so as not to interfere with the top seam when I attached the lining.

I really like this bag. I have a question - how did you get the tabs on the sides of the bag to look so neat. Did you sew on after your put the bag together? You did a really good job!!

Not only a FABULOUS job, but what a great way to re-purpose a terrific fabric. My guess is that you will get many compliments and maybe some orders while wearing this bag. BRAVO!
