Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Funky

Materials

cotton fabric strips cord glue needle & thread Sewing machine buttons/optional

What was your inspiration?

The Ethnic Culture of women who carried baskets on their heads as a means of transporting their goods.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the fact that the vision I had when picking the two colors of fabric, actually turned into a beautiful basket that got a lot of attention when people visited my home!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't become discouraged and frustrated when trying to wrap fabric around cord. This will take patience and time. Also choose a solid color for basket when just starting out.

Hi - I love these baskets and am really interested in giving it a go! How wide are the strips of material you use and do you sew the material onto the cord before sewing the rows together with your machine?? thanks for sharing your beautiful baskets I am very inspired by your creations! :)

Hi I use 1 inch strips of cotton fabric. The longer the better for wrapping it around the cord. I used #8 cotton clothsline cord. With a glue stick I put glue onto cord and wrap at a slant like a candy cane stripe.

After glueing all of the fabric onto the cord, sew by coiling it, turning as you go. Sorry, I was having trouble getting the reply correct!

thanks for your response, I think I have a pretty good idea of how to do it now - do you use a regular sewing machine or do you need a heavy duty machine!
