Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Instructions

Just follow Meg's step by step directions!

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual

Materials

Cotton jersey

What was your inspiration?

This is the second garment I made - I'm really enjoying this course so far. I used jersey fabric from NearSea Naturals - It's a nice medium weight, very soft jersey.

What are you most proud of?

The neck came out the way it was supposed to! That's where I'm most likely to mess up on other knit garments I've made.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Having said I'm proud of the way the neckline came out - I did end up ripping it out the first time I put it on - I had the seam on the neckband lined up with the center FRONT instead of the back - oops. Also, make sure you follow Meg's advice and spend time figuring out which stitches and settings on your machine work best with your individual fabric. I used my machines 'stretch stitch' for the hem and the top thread kept breaking - not sure why but I would have figured out that something was set wrong if I had taken more time sewing a sample.

Thanks! I cut a size small based on my bust and waist measurements. Next time I make it I'm going to add a little more room in the waist and hip. I like the way it fits in the shoulders and bust but I prefer things a little looser around my waist :) (which is what I love about sewing!)
